Grant Awarded to BCHC - Carseat Safety Check Program
The Boone County Health Center is the recipient of a grant from the Cornhusker Motor Club Foundation, which is supported by AAA Insurance and AAA Nebraska members. The grant will be used towards the purchase of approximately 25 infant and child car seats. Families with limited income can receive the car seats FREE of charge. The number of infant and child car seats is limited, and will be on a first come, first serve basis.
In combination with the car seats, the Health Center will be offering an inspection station to check infant and children car seats for proper installation and safety. Julie Koese, a staff member of BCHC’s Community Health team, has recently completed training to be a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. She will be conducting monthly car seat safety checks for proper installation and assessing if the car seat is a correct fit based on the age and weight of the child. The inspection is FREE of charge but is by appointment only. During a scheduled appointment, if the infant or child car seat is outdated, there will be other seats available. Once the FREE seats funded through the Cornhusker Motor Club Foundation are gone, other car seats are available for a donation. The inspection station is offered on the third Wednesday of each month beginning on Wednesday, February 20th at the Boone County Health Center from 9:00 a.m. –1:00 p.m. Contact Julie Kroese at 402-395-3165 for an appointment.
