Child Car Seat Safety
Putting a child’s safety seat into a vehicle can be very confusing. Doing it properly is important for your child’s safety!
Here at Boone County Health Center we are committed to the safety of your children. BCHC offers a Child Safety Seat Inspection Station every 3rd Wednesday of the month from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Nicole Levander is a certified Car Seat Technician and can help you install your child’s car seat and answer any questions you may have. During 2008,
- 6 children ages 0-14 were killed and 1,382 children were injured on Nebraska roadways.
- More than 7,900 child safety seats were checked by Technicians who determined 89% of the seats were installed incorrectly.
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children of every age from 2 to 14 years old. In the United States, an average of 5 children 0-14 years old were killed and 568 were injured every day in motor vehicle crashes during 2006. (Source: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration)
Child safety seats reduce fatal injury in passenger cars by 71% for infants less than 1 year old and by 54% for toddlers 1 to 4 years of age. (Source: NHTSA ) For children 4 to 7 years of age, booster seats have shown to reduce injury risk by 59% compared to safety belts alone. (Source: Durbin DR)
