BCHC Growing in size and Numbers

best way to keep warm this winter

Ten area high school seniors will get a chance to show their stuff on the basketball court hooping it up with NU senior football players as the hospital’s foundation hosts Husker Hoops.  This is the second time the foundation has hosted the event, which is scheduled for Friday, April 9th at the Boone Central gymnasium in Albion.  Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for students; children under 4 years of age are free.  Proceeds from the event will help fund the Foundation’s 2010 project, Care & Comfort.
Project Care & Comfort will fund both medical equipment and furnishings for two private patient care suites in the Hospital’s new patient care addition.  The two new suites are designed for terminally or seriously ill patients needing extended care and for patients undergoing lengthy infusion treatments.  The new suites are located at each end of the new patient care wing for enhanced privacy.  The two rooms are oversized with additional room to accommodate overnight stays from family and friends.  The rooms also have a dining area for family or friends who are staying around the clock.  The suite to be used for patients undergoing lengthy infusion (IV) treatments can also accommodate family or friends who are staying with a patient during a day-long treatment.
The Husker seniors will be lead by free safety, Matt O’Hanlon and receiver, Wes Cammack.  Other NU players expected to play are Chris Brooks, Menelik Holt, Jacob Hickman, Derek Meyer and Andy Christensen.  Since this year seniors are a small class, former players, Tyler Wortman and Joe Ganz may also participate.  O’Hanlon notes it should be an interesting game as none of the NU players played high school basketball!
The all area squad of senior basketball players from ten area schools will be coached by Pat Larson of Fullerton Public School. Senior players were chosen by their coaches to participate are: Ryan Larson (Fullerton), Jake Kauffman (Newman Grove), Jeff Starman (Elgin High/Elgin Pope John), Dylan Paczosa (Humphrey High), Christian Splath (St. Edward), Drew Kasperbauer (Spalding/Spalding Academy), Matt Zoucha (Cedar Rapids), Trent Classen (Humphrey St. Francis) and Dustin Christo and Julian Kunzman  (Boone Central).
“With the spring Red/White game still over a month away, this will give area Husker fans a chance to see their Huskers one last time and to help raise money for a local cause,” stated Aprill Murphy, Foundation Director at the Boone County Health Center.  New to the event this year is the Husker Photo.  For five-dollars, kids can have their pictures taken with the NU Husker players.  Two raffles, one for 2 tickets to a fall Nebraska football game and a signed Husker jersey will be featured.  The 2 tickets were donated by State Senator Annette Dubas of Fullerton. Proceeds will also go towards project Care & Comfort.
Tickets for the event will be sold at the door, with the doors opening at 6p.m. for photos with the game beginning at 7:30.
